It was on a TV show called “The Electric Company”, which was supposed to be for kids who were slightly older than “Sesame Street”’s target audience.of course, I watched both shows for several years.
In the ’70s, especially on the Electric Company (a childrens’ show), he couldn’t have gotten by with it.

Cute – adding the words to the song, i.e. cub – cube, twin – twine, Sam – same – would help kids learn this concept better. Still prefer a direct, systematic, multi-sensory approach to teaching reading called Sing, Spell, Read & Write ( which by the way, has a two-vowel song and silent e song and dance built into the program..) Enjoy!
